Three Dog Night

I spent most of last night laying awake listening to the howling wind. The previous day it was 50 degrees, but Mother Nature has her own agenda and today it will be around 10 degrees but feel much colder. In the early 1970's, there was a band called "Three Dog Night". Most people thought it was a quirky name for a rock band. I guess it was no quirkier than the " Loving Spoonful" or the "Turtles". The name "Three Dog Night" actually has a meaning. In the midwest when nights get cold, people used to have their dogs sleep under the covers with them to create more body heat. A dog's core temperature is about 101 degrees, so any help was great. If the night was cold, it was a one dog night. When it got colder, it was a two dog night. When the temperature dropped to unbearable lows, it became a three dog night. Last night Shelby slept under the covers with me. He finally earned his keep.
