The Walk

This morning I am getting ready to do "a walk". The concept of a walk has been around for many years but I never went to one. Since my husband volunteers in a local children's hospital, he signed us up to participate. We will go to the beach, meet up with other healthcare workers and walk a few miles. All of the walkers made a donation to the charity. It is a beautiful, cool, sunny day so the walk should be very enjoyable.

The Difference of a Day

What a difference a day makes. This is an expression that we have all heard many times. Yesterday it was 92 degrees and I was sweating. This morning I woke up to 58 degrees and I was a bit chilled. Overnight things changed. This is a good analogy for our lives. A situation that seems unsolvable one day, will be resolved the next. The aches and pains we have one day can ease up the next day. Life is a series of adjustments. There will be ups and downs. We just have to realize that if we are patient and wait things out, they will turn around.

Who Is The Liar?

I think that most people would rather know the truth and deal with it than be lied to and never know. That is what happened at my office the other day. Someone went into the computer system and changed a default, locking other people out. They thought that no one would notice. Too bad for them that I did. There were only two possible suspects. One was the new doctor and the other, her old assistant. Her assistant is now considered an employee of my office, so my boss is also her boss. Now the plot thickens. When I told my boss about the computer situation, she questioned the doctor, who swore that she did not do it. She claimed that she is not a computer person and would have no idea how to change things. My boss then questioned the assistant who also claimed that she would have had no idea how to do it. This girl is a computer wiz and already told me that she knows how to work the new system. So now we have two suspects, each one claiming innocence. My boss is angry because she is being lied to. By Monday, she wants an answer and for someone to undo what they did.

Picture Perfect

I received my Mother's Day gift in the mail yesterday. I opened the Priority box and found two framed pictures. One was of my both granddaughters, dressed in matching outfits. The older sister was sitting and the younger one was standing next to her. They were holding hands and had their arms around each other. The other picture was in a pink sepia tone. The baby was looking down as if she was intently listening to something. Her big sister was leaning in, whispering in her ear. It was a beautiful pose that should be titled "Sisterly Secrets". It was not only a picture, it was a connection between two young sisters that will last their entire lives.

Purpose Of Life

I get up every day with a happy frame of mind. I have hope that it will carry through the entire day. It really depends on me to do it. I have to ignore what other people say or do, if it is not directly related to my life or not true. I have the ability to keep myself in a positive mind frame. This morning I read a quote from the Dali Lama that I want to pass on. It said, "I believe the purpose of life is to be happy. From the moment of birth, every human being wants happiness not suffering. Neither social conditioning nor education nor ideology affect this. From the very core of our being, we desire contentment. Therefore, it’s important to discover what will bring about the greatest degree of happiness".

Respect

There are many feelings that you can have for another person. One of the most important one is respect. It is earned and can easily be lost. Once it is lost, it is not easy to earn back. Sometimes it never is. I was talking to one of my doctors who is the second highest in authority and she asked why the office morale was so low. After thinking for a minute, it hit me. We have all lost respect for our boss. We have seen a strong woman beat down to the point where she is almost a hostage. She lost her power and her authority in a business that she owns. We have been telling her that she needs to stand up for herself and that she has no backbone, but she has lost the will to fight. By doing that, she has lost the respect of her employees. Maybe she needs to hit rock bottom before she sees why things are continuing to plummet. I no longer care. I cannot spend one moment caring about a person that I have no respect for.

All Together

Yesterday most of my family was together. Thanks to technology, my parents got to see four of their five great grandchildren. Two were live and two were virtual. Just as everyone was leaving my sister's house, my son called and told us to Face Time with him. We immediately got the computer and dialed his number. In an instant my two granddaughter's appeared. My parents got to see their smiling faces and even saw my oldest granddaughter show us some of her "moves" which is her way of saying dances. We all crowded around the dining room table, all talking at the same time. No one heard a word anyone was saying but all we really needed was to see those adorable faces.
